Goals of Acquisition and Cataloguing Department
- is responsible for process of selecting, ordering, and receiving materials for library compliance with existing provisions in this matter. It comprises
- keeping abreast of new publications in the medicine and related areas,
- current knowledge about the market of electronic products in medicine and education,
- purchasing new books, journals subscription, items for special collection and electronic resources,
- purchasing archival items on the patron demand,
- purchasing press subscription both for the Library collection and SUM units,
- expanding collection by exchange, gift or replacement for lost items,
- keeping inventory lists for books, journals items and special collection,
- updating collections by removing obsolete titles and books,
- creates and updates the Library catalogue placed in integrated library system Aleph with:
- collaboration with union catalog NUKAT,
- descriptive cataloguing in MARC 21 format,
- subject cataloguing wtih MeSH (Medical Subject Headings),
- physically preparing the item for the shelf - books, journals and special collection items,
- distributes acquired items to the SUM Library branches,
- ensures Aleph system proper functioning through the work of the system librarian,
- creates and updates SUM Doctoral Theses Catalogue,
- exchanges items with domestic and foreign libraries through interlibrary exchange,
- provides information about SUM LIbrary collection for nationwide central catalogues.
