- Medical Academy in Bytom – since April 22nd 1948 – Decree of the Council of Ministers of March 20th 1948 on the foundation of the Medical Academy in Bytom (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland No. 21, item 146).
- Medical Academy of Silesia – since November 15th 1949 – Decree of the Council of Ministers of October 24th 1949 on granting the name "Medical Academy of Silesia" (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland No. 58, item. 452).
- Ludwik Waryński Medical Academy of Silesia – since March 23rd 1950 – Decree of the Council of Ministers of 3rd March 1950 on changing the name of academic institutions (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland No. 9, item. 92).
- Medical University of Silesia in Katowice – since 20th June 2007 – Decree of the Council of Ministers of 30th March 2007 on changing the name to "Medical University of Silesia in Katowice" (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland No. 99, item. 659).
