Library's Mission

SUM Library supports teaching, research, and professional development for students, PhD students, academic staff, and anyone interested in medical and related sciences. It collects, organises, and provides access to information resources – in both traditional and electronic form – ensuring up-to-date knowledge in the field of medicine and related sciences.

The library promotes the visibility and impact of the scientific achievements of the Medical University of Silesia in Poland and worldwide by systematically recording information about publications by university faculty members and making them available in an open access model in the university repository.

The mission of the SUM Library is also to develop users' information literacy through educational, training, and promotional activities that support the conscious and effective use of scientific information resources.

SUM Library vision

The SUM Library strives to be a modern, dynamically developing centre of knowledge and information competence, which actively contributes to the quality of education and scientific research at the University.

The Library's ambition is to act as a partner in the teaching and research process – an institution that not only provides access to reliable sources of information, but also supports the development of open science, the visibility of research achievements, and the improvement of the academic community's information literacy.

The SUM Library aims to be a friendly, innovative, and open place—a space conducive to learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange, responding to the changing needs of users and the challenges of modern science.
